Portia Lee James DeGeneres (also known as Portia de Rossi) is a known Australian as well as an American actress, model and philanthropist. She changed her name legally aged 15 and chose an identity she liked "Portia," named after the Shakespearean character of 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia claims that this is the most courageous thing she's done. It was her struggle with sexuality spurred her to alter her name. Portia was first introduced to film with a romantic comedy drama titled 'Sirens' where she was a part of the cast alongside Hugh Grant. The actress has appeared in various American TV shows and films including 'Too Much",' Nick Freno The licensed Teacher, 'Arrested Development, as well as 'Better Off Ted. The actress racked up massive popularity for the role of the role of a Boston- based lawyer named "Nelle Porter" on a comedy-drama TV show titled 'Ally McBeal. The character she played was the primary comic relief in the series.
